Edward Hyde’s whirlwind of a year as BBC Radio 2’s Young Chorister of the Year is set to end on a high note with a role in the latest production of Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden this Autumn.
Since winning Young Chorister of The Year, Edward, who is aged just 13 and is in Year 8 at King’s Rochester Preparatory School, has performed to audiences across the UK and abroad including a tour of Italy and in August 2017 he will be taking to the stage as Boy 1 in David McVicar’s fantastical take on the Mozart classic.
Judges at the audition were wowed by Edward’s exemplary performance and commented that “not only did he sing superbly but he was incredibly professional and a real credit to his school”
A busy summer awaits Edward who not only has the rehearsals to attend but will also be off on a singing tour of Malta too.
Principal of King’s Rochester, Mr Jeremy Walker said of his success “This really is a wonderful way for Edward to finish off his year as BBC Chorister of the Year and we look forward to seeing him on stage”.
