King’s Rochester Music Scholar, Anna Crawford, has had an exceptional week which saw her win a place in the Rotary Young Musician of the Year final and also the Woodard Young Musician of the Year Final.
Anna, age 16 from Fawkham and in the Lower Sixth at King’s Rochester, won the Medway Rotary Young Musician of the Year in 2016 and was then put forward for the regional competition which she won on Mother’s Day. She will now play in the final alongside the other regional winners from across the UK on 6 May 2017 at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.
The Woodard Young Musician of the Year Final takes place in Birmingham and Anna will be joined by fellow pupils Edward Hyde, Amelia Chambers, George Harrington and George Crawford. King’s Rochester has had many finalists over the years with the title being won by Laurence Long in 2014. We are hoping our performers can come home with both the Senior and Junior trophies this year.
In addition to her competition success, Anna recently played her second concerto this year, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the Bromley Youth Chamber Orchestra in the Pamoja Hall in Sevenoaks.
King’s Rochester Director of Music, Mr McIlwraith comments “This is a staggering achievement for someone in their Lower Sixth Year and we congratulate Anna for creating these fabulous opportunities through sheer hard work and dedication but also plenty of talent.”
