Friday 8th December saw the first of this years’ open mic nights. The evening was hosted wittily and skilfully by masters of ceremony Nathaniel Windsor and Cameron McColm.
There were a number of notable solos, especially from Josh Otuyalo, who spoke emotively about his own experiences which were brought out in his two songs, accompanied by Christian Blanford on the piano. Christian also appeared several times more, once accompanied by Tai Menefer who surprised us with his beatboxing.
The house band of the evening included Alice Gilbert on bass, Oscar Pyrke in drums, Ashwin Arulparam on guitar and Leon Neubauer on vocals and banjo. Laura West dazzled us with a heartfelt solo, and Rachel Cox and Lydia Kirton brought us into the spirit of Christmas with ‘Santa Baby’.
Mr. Hyland accompanied for Nathaniel Windsor’s excellent rendition of ‘Jealous’ and also joined the house band for a few numbers.
Evren Mehmet, Fiona Thomson, Alice and Isobel Gilbert took us back to the 70s with Abba’s Dancing Queen (including tambourine).
Many thanks to Ms. Hebden, Alexander Hebden and Owen Luckhurst for their help behind the scene, and to the pupils and staff of the Charity Committee for running the tuck shop and ticketing.
