Congratulations to George Harrington on a brilliant performance at the Kent Young Musician of the Year competition at the Marlowe theatre in Canterbury last night. He performed a tuba concerto with professional orchestra and competed against 5 other finalists. The standard of playing between them really was stratospheric. Sadly, George did not clinch the prize on this occasion but the audience clearly enjoyed his playing and he was a credit to himself, to King's and to tuba players everywhere! It must have been an extremely nerve-racking occasion for George but he coped admirably and impressed all who were lucky to be there.
Congratulations also to Anna Crawford who has won through to the regional finals of the European Piano Teacher's Association Piano Competition and will compete in the final at the Conway Hall in central London on the 21st of February. She impressed the judges with her performance of the virtuosic Rondo Capprcioso by Mendelssohn, which is an incredible feat for a player of her age. We wish her well in the forthcoming final.
Open Mic Night
Thanks to the performers and to those who attended another great Open Mic Night on Friday night. Thanks in particular to Conal Magee, Sam Owen, Sam Cresswell and Kieran Lamb who accompanied most of the acts and thanks to Conal for pulling the whole evening together.
