NJIRC SUCCESS FOR KING'S SENIOR ROWERS

Twenty one Senior School pupils entered the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships held at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre on Friday 9th March 2018.

The team comprised pupils from all Senior School forms including several pupils from Removes who have only recently started rowing in our Rowing Academy sessions on Saturday mornings and after school.

All the team members competed in individual events for their respective age group and notable performances were Will Humphris U6 (8/19), Oscar Pyrke L6 (20/38), Joe Byrne U5 (22/42), Olivia Black U5 (14/36), Pedro Gomes L5 (21/142), Oliver Hunt L5 (58/142), Tom Byrne R (57/162)

Eight of the boys competed in the ‘Boat Race Relay’ (Yrs. 10-13) finishing 12 out or 20 entries and four Removes boys competed in the and ‘Boys Sprint Relay’ finishing a creditable 35 out of 88 entries.  Will and Fiona also joined composite teams with other clubs for the Boys and Girls ‘Boat Race Relay’.

The effort and enthusiasm of the whole team was excellent.  Competition was tough with over 2000 competitors.  Nevertheless, Kings performed extremely well, given that some of the pupils have only started rowing this term.
