National Success for Gypsy in IAPS Athletics Championships

On Friday 16th June 2017 selected pupils from Years 6, 7, and 8 took part in the annual IAPS Kent County Athletics Championships at the Julie Rose Stadium Ashford.  It was fantastic athletics weather, a contrast on last year!, and 32 children took part in 62 events.  This year produced fantastic results all round with a haul of 13 medals including four Gold, one Silver and eight Bronze. Overall King’s Rochester pupils were placed in the top 10 in 41 events - a brilliant achievement!

The National Finals were held in Birmingham on 4 July 2017 and six of the events had King’s Rochester representatives!  Sarah Watmough competed in the High Jump, Katriona Cumming the 800m and Hamish Crockford in both the Hurdles and Javelin. Gypsy Nash journeyed to Birmingham following a record-breaking throw in Ashford. She has devoted many hours to her Athletics training and this has paid great dividends as she collected the silver medal in the Shot Put and the Gold in her main event, Discus. She won this by over 4m! Yet another National Champion at King's Rochester.
