We are delighted to celebrate with Edward as he learned earlier this month of his success in auditioning for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. The orchestra comprises 165 of the best young musicians from the UK aged 14-19. The players are selected through two rounds of auditions, including solo performing to a panel, interviews and rehearsing as part of the brass section.
Edward secured one of only six places on trombone within the Orchestra, competing against over 900 other post grade-8 trombonists who applied this year. Edward will take part in three residential courses, followed by concerts conducted by some of the world's finest conductors in settings such as the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and a tour to the USA, playing in venues such as the prestigious Carnegie Hall.
As part of NYO Edward will be charged with creating opportunities for other aspiring teenage musicians to engage with NYO, and he will play an important role sharing his love of music through NYO Inspire.
This is a life-changing musical experience for Edward requiring a great deal of commitment and a lot of his time. That Edward has achieved this great triumph is less of a surprise to those who hear him practising indefatigably every morning before school in the department - a reminder to all our musicians to develop their talents to the full!
