‘Children make a flying start in their learning…’
Ofsted Report, September 2008
King's Nursery . . . Where are we?
King’s Rochester Nursery occupies new, purpose-built accommodation in Chadlington House which is also home to our youngest Pre-Prep children. Chadlington House is situated in extensive grounds right in the heart of Rochester’s historic old town, two minutes form the High Street and just five minutes from Rochester Station, but is a safe, green haven for your little one’s first steps into the world of learning. Nursery children regularly use the beautiful Paddock, (our playing fields which lie adjacent to the Nursery) and enjoy extensive, well-equipped outdoor play areas, quiet and wet-play spaces, state - of - the - art ICT facilities and a well-stocked library. They also enjoy regular trips to the neighbouring Cathedral Orchard for den-building and play in a safe, natural environment.
Extended days are available from 7.45am to 5.40pm
We would love you to visit our wonderful Nursery. If you would like more information or to arrange a visit or a taster day for your son or daughter, please call our Registrar, Lynne Davies, on 01634 888590. She will be happy to help.
What makes us special?
King’s Rochester is a School Nursery and aims to educate, challenge and stimulate your child and to provide a happy and secure first taste of the exciting world of learning. Inspirational staff who are experts in the very specialist area of Nursery education, will quickly get to know your child, nurture growth and identify unique talents and strengths. They will help them to develop social skills and independence as well as making them happy and confident Early Learners.
King’s Rochester combines 1400 years of history and tradition with facilities and a curriculum for 21st century children. Your 3 to 4 year-old will enjoy access to the beautiful grounds and state-of-art facilities of King’s Rochester- the Computer Room, Sports Hall, Playing Fields and Dining Room. He or she will also enjoy being part of Pre-Preparatory School life- taking part in whole school events such as Sports Days, and Charity Fundraising Days. They will be challenged to explore, to challenge themselves and to develop their skills in all areas of the curriculum.
And how many other three year olds are allowed to build dens and go on nature walks in the Cathedral Orchard?! King’s little ones can – and do – regularly!
Frequently asked questions
What is new about King’s Rochester Nursery?
3+ Nursery at King’s Rochester moved to superb, new facilities in Chadlington House in the summer of 2010. It now offers two 3-hour teaching sessions per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Parents may also choose before and after school care options available from 7.45am each morning and until 5.40pm each evening.
How many sessions does my child have to attend?
King’s Rochester is an educational Nursery where children begin their learning journey aged 3+. They therefore benefit from regular attendance and so we ask that they attend a minimum of 5 structured sessions or 3 full days per week. It helps children greatly to prepare for full-time school in the following September if they are attending for at least 4 full days by the Summer Term.
Describe a typical King’s Nursery day!
A full day in the Nursery classroom runs between 8.45am and 3.30pm and includes a freshly-prepared, cooked lunch served between 11.45am and 12.30pm, (Both morning and afternoon children attend lunch which is held in our neighbouring Dining Room). Six hours of play and learning time are available throughout the day, including opportunities for craft work, number play, language and listening skills, role play, computer fun, music, outdoor play, German (twice weekly), science and sport. (King’s has been teaching German right through the School as part of the European Initiative for more than 12 years now and our little ones love it!) There is a break mid way through the morning and afternoon sessions for fruit, a biscuit or toast and a drink.
How is the day structured?
The session times are as follows:
Guten Morgen Schule (before school/ breakfast club) 7.45am-8.45am
Morning session 8.45am- 12.30pm
Lunch at 11.45 am- 12.30 pm
Afternoon session 11.45am-3.30pm
Abendschule (After school club) 3.30pm-5.40pm
Is there a uniform?
We have a simple uniform consisting of a pale blue school polo worn with shorts in the summer, or a navy blue jog suit with sweatshirt for colder weather. This uniform can be kept and worn as the PE kit when children move through the Pre-Preparatory School.
Are the staff suitably qualified?
All of our staff are highly qualified and experienced. The Nursery is led by a qualified teacher, with all other experienced staff working with your children holding NVQ Level 3 qualifications or higher. King’s Rochester places a high value on ensuring your children have the most talented and dedicated adults guiding them as they take their first steps on the educational journey.
How do I register my child for the Nursery?
The best way to appreciate the happy and exciting atmosphere of the Nursery is to meet the staff and children. Please contact the Registrar, Mrs Lynne Davies, on the number or email below and arrange to come and visit us as soon as possible. The Headmistress, Mrs Sarah Skillern, will be happy to show you and your child the around School. If you like what you see, and wish to register your child, please complete the Registration Form provided in your enquiry pack and return it to King’s as early as possible before you wish your child to start. Places are limited to ensure that every child benefits from maximum teacher contact time and gets that all important “flying start” so please do not delay! The Headmistress will then contact you in the Spring Term before your child is due to start Nursery to invite you to attend an information session and to invite your child to spend a taster day with us.
We look forward to meeting you very soon!
