Pupils of the Pre-Preparatory School move into the Preparatory School at 8+. Other entrants are admitted subject to availability following assessments in English, Mathematics, Non Verbal Reasoning and/or Verbal Reasoning and an interview with the Headmaster. Both performance and potential are assessed when awarding places at the School.

Assessments for entry at ages 8 to 12 are held in November for entry the following September. A second tranche of assessments take place in February/March subject to places being available.

Entry at 11+ (Year 7)
Every year we hear from our new Year 7 parents that King’s is a great place to get used to being at Senior School. They feel that their children have the best of both worlds – Preparatory and Senior – because, rather than starting life at the bottom of a huge secondary school alongside pupils who already seem like adults, they have their base in the Preparatory School and for some subjects are taught by Senior School teachers either in the Preparatory classrooms or in the Senior classrooms and labs alongside the older pupils. This arrangement gives children the time to get used to new, more sophisticated methods of learning with specialist subject teachers during Years 7 and 8, whilst still having the support and space to find their feet and grow in confidence as one of the top two years in the Preparatory School.

All children who have registered an interest in joining the School at 11+ entry will be invited to an assessment and interview with the Headmaster of the Preparatory School. The assessment will be in English, Maths and Non-Verbal Reasoning. We will also request consent to approach your child’s current school for a reference.
