The King’s Rochester Under 14 Sevens squad were entered into the Kent Shield Tournament and played at Dartford Grammar School on Tuesday 14th March 2017.
After a tough first encounter against Hurstmere College who King’s eventually overcame, the team really began to hit their straps and played some brilliant rugby in victories over Dartford Grammar, Wilmington Grammar and John Roan School. This meant we topped our group with impressive statistics, scoring twenty-three tries and conceding only three.
In the semi-final we faced Norton Knatchull School and in what proved to be the game of the day, tries from Finley Williams, Xavier Smitherman-Cairns and two from Tomiwa Olujobi meant we won 24-21 and booked a place in the final against Barton Court School.
The final was a cagey affair with both teams struggling to play with the pace and intensity as was witnessed earlier in the day. However, King’s did just enough with tries from Will Baker and Conor Huntington- Thresher making the final score 12-10.
This was a fantastic achievement by the team and the boys are to be congratulated for their commitment to Rugby Sevens this term and the dedication they have shown since the start of January.
