Rowing successes at the JIRR and Lea Spring Regatta

A number of King’s pupils competed at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta (JIRR) on Saturday 23rd April 2016.The regatta is held yearly at the International Rowing Venue in Nottingham for juniors in age categories J14, J15 and J16 from each of 12 regions of England and Wales. The crews row over a 1500m course, six crews side-by-side, in two 6 lane heats followed by two finals - the fastest six in the A final.

Charlotte (Upper 5th) earned a bronze medal in the J16 Girls’ 8, whilst William, also Upper Fifth, won the J16 Boys singles B final and the J16 Boys coxed 4. William's crew finished 2nd in the B final with an overall 8th place.


Year 9 pupil Sam  gained fifth place in the J14 Single Sculls. The following day Sam also competed in the Lea Spring Regatta winning both the J14 Single Sculls and J15 Single Sculls.

Year 8 Prep School pupil Robert, was placed overall 9th in the J14 Double Sculls.

All the participants performed extremely well in windy and choppy conditions.
