What strange times we are living through at the moment!

The Midsummer Open Morning is always one of my favourite events, when our majestic and ancient School – and the whole of historic Rochester – are looking their best set against blue skies and trees full of blossom. Our visitors always comment on the beauty of our setting - between the Norman Cathedral and 12th century Castle -  and our pupils enjoy showing families and prospective pupils of all ages around the School of which they are so proud to be a part.

Sadly, this year, we cannot open our doors to welcome you and meet you face-to-face - but you can still meet me and the Heads and some of our pupils, and we can still enjoy showing you around our beautiful school, albeit virtually!

When more normal life resumes, we look forward to being able to welcome you in person to King’s Rochester and to showing you around the real campus and introducing you to many more of the pupils and staff who make this a very special place to learn, work, develop talents and skills, play and socialise.

This online tour is based closely on the actual Open Morning tours you would take with our pupils and we hope that you enjoy your online visit.

Please just complete your details below so that we can keep in touch once you have finished your virtual tour, invite you back as soon as we can and answer your specific questions in the meantime. I recommend that you start your tour now and read through the literature afterwards, at your leisure.

The visit starts with my welcome as Principal and Head of the Senior School, followed by some wise words from one of our Heads of School, Head Girl, Lydia who will tell you a little about her time here. Lydia began her time at King's in our Nursery and is known as a 'lifer'. She hopes to read Accounting and Finance at University in September.

Many of you will want to hear more from the Head of King’s Preparatory School, Tom Morgan, who looks after all the children aged between eight and 13 at King’s. Mr Morgan will tell you a little about his school and then you can also hear what Ralf, a current Year 7 pupil, has to say about his experience of joining King’s in Year 7 from another school.

Mrs Openshaw is Head of the Nursery and Pre-Preparatory School at King’s and she talks here about the crucial first steps into education for our youngest pupils aged between three and eight. The warm, caring, happy environment enjoyed by our smallest recruits ensures that their love of learning and confidence start early!

At King’s, we believe in educating the whole child and our latest Independent Schools’ Inspectorate (ISI) report in January 2020, corroborated that and found that King’s was “excellent” in all areas.

We are proud that our academic results are impressive at all levels, but we believe that building a love of learning, confidence without arrogance and developing independent thinking skills are just as important as achieving the best grades. To achieve this, we keep our class sizes small so that teachers know their pupils as individuals and can help each of them shine.

Happy children perform to their best and the school is an exceptionally happy and friendly place where moral values, self-discipline, emotional intelligence and a Christian spirit underpin our family community. Bonds between pupils, parents and staff are strong and a fundamental feature of life at King’s. This is a school where all are cared for as individuals and where links between home and school are a real strength. We are, in every sense, a "School for Life".

King’s is a community where all individuals flourish. The School has 28 buildings in beautiful locations around the heart of historic Rochester. We offer co-education from three to 18 years and our structure of Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior Schools enables us to offer a tailor-made experience for each age group while giving access to all to the excellent facilities of the whole school.

We offer and encourage pupils of all ages to take part in, a huge range of co-curricular opportunities to ignite and nurture their interests, providing experiences which will develop skills and confidence for life. Sport, Music, Drama, Outdoor Pursuits, CCF and a broad range of clubs and societies are integral to the school’s commitment to providing the richest possible educational experience.

It is easily accessible by road from all areas of Kent and the South East but is just half an hour by train from central London. The School is just a five minute walk from Rochester Station. We also run an extensive bus service.

Enjoy your virtual tour today. We look forward to being able to welcome you and your family to King’s in the very near future.

 Mr Ben Charles
Principal of King's Rochester
