King's in the Community
King's Rochester prides itself on the sense of community felt across the School. Parents, pupils, staff, Old Roffensians and the wider Medway community all contribute to making King's the School it is today.
We are part of the Medway Cultural Partnership and an active participant in the Medway Champions Programme to promote Medway as a place to live, visit, work and learn and we support the town's bid for City Of Culture 2025.
We purchase as many of our goods and services locally as we can and have long standing relationships with local businesses including greengrocers, butchers, print works, museums, galleries and the Rochester rail station. Each School supports a nominated local charity and host a range of fundraising events throughout the year. We have recently supported Holding on Letting Go, Unicef, The Dog's Trust and Demelza Hospice.
Each Wednesday of term time we welcome local Mums and Dads to our Toddler Time group; a great opportunity to enjoy a cup of tea with other parents while your children play. Families are warmly invited to our annual Toddler events such as Santa Claus' visit, Teddy Bears Picnic and our Easter Egg Hunt.
We are privileged to use Rochester Cathedral as our chapel and host a variety of concerts including seasonal, baroque, concertos and more, many of which include free entry. All our concerts and productions are open to the public, for further details of upcoming events, please see our events page.
Our extensive facilities are available to the local community, The Paddock is used by local cricket clubs for training and fixtures, the 25m indoor heated swimming pool is used by local primary schools and swimming clubs for tuition and lifesaving courses while our enclosed playing fields The Alps are used by local primary schools, scout groups and rugby teams. The King's Rochester Sports Centre offers pupils and the local community, some of the best sporting facilities in the South East including a large indoor sports court, fitness studio and LTA standard tennis courts.
Both Boarding Houses and a number of classrooms are used by visiting language schools and our music facilities are used by the Rochester Cathedral Children's’ Choir. School Hall is used for functions in aid of: Diocese of Rochester, Rochester Sweep’s Festival and Rochester Cathedral. If you would like to enquire about hiring our facilities, please do get in contact.
We truly enjoy engaging with the local community and our pupils and staff regularly visit local Schools and businesses. Each year our choirs sing at the Wisdom Hospice and Richard Watts Almhouses, our actors tour primary schools with the Theatre in Education programme and we welcome children to hone their sport skills with our annual Festivals' of Rugby and Netball.
